THE ORIGIN STORY

Miscreant Issue Zero

Miscreant Issue Zero — 2022

Get the Digital Edition — $2

In 1983, two kids in a garage made a zine.

They didn't know it was called a zine. They just folded paper in half at a supermarket copy machine because they had something to say and nowhere to say it. They sold one copy to a woman across the street for fifteen cents. She never asked for a refund.

Kids get sidetracked. Thirty years passed.

In 2022, they finished what they started. Miscreant Issue Zero was a labor of love. It featured aliens debating the meaning of existence, love poems wrapped in hot wax, and heartbreak laid out in hand-lettered typography. It was eclectic, strange, and disarmingly beautiful.

Now I'm turning that garage into something bigger.

And I want you in it.

This Is Different.

Miscreant Anthology is a collective. Not my book with your work in it. OUR book.

Most literary journals want to publish you. We want to build with you.

This is a home for the weird, the wonderful, and the things that fit nowhere else. True indie art, comics, poetry, stories, and games. The stuff that matters because it's yours.

We are building a creative, artistic movement. Something real. Something we're all part of. Your work alongside other indie creators who said yes to the weird stuff. Who showed up.

The real prize is the book itself. Holding it. Seeing your name in it. Being part of a group of people who stopped waiting for someone to give them permission.

This is your door. Walk through it.

Never Been Published?

GOOD!

We're looking for the ones the other gatekeepers ignored.

The ones who've been writing in the margins.

The ones with notebooks full of weird stuff they've never shown anyone.

The ones sitting on art because they know where it belongs.

You need permission? Here it is.

You need experience? Forget it.

You only need a voice and the guts to share it.

The World Needs Your Weird

If it matters to you, it belongs here.

Love stories. Weird fiction. Funny stuff. Dark stuff. Aliens having existential crises. Romance that feels like a fever dream. Comics. Cartoons. Illustrations. Abstract sketches. B&W photography. One-page games. Essays about things that matter to you. Poetry that feels like a confession.

We accept: Fiction. Poetry. Essays. Comics. Sequential art. Illustrations. Drawings. Paintings. Photography. Mixed media. Collage. Digital art. Scripts (stage, screen, radio). Comic scripts. Games. One-page RPGs.

All genres welcome: Science fiction, fantasy, horror, romance, mystery, thriller, slice of life, memoir, autofiction, humor, satire, experimental, hybrid, literary fiction, weird fiction, noir, psychological, absurdist, magical realism, speculative fiction, everything.

I don't care about your resume.

I don't care if you've never been published.

I don't care if you've been rejected a hundred times.

I care if it's yours. I care if it matters to you.

The window is short because the hunger is real. Do not wait.

Projected Publication: May/June 2026

What You Get

Here's what being in this book actually means.

Your work in print. A real book. Your name in the table of contents. That part is certain.

A free digital copy. Every accepted contributor gets the full PDF the day it drops. If you want a physical copy, it's available to you at cost. Printing price plus shipping, nothing more.

Your copyright, always. You grant first publication rights. After the book releases, the work stays yours. Republish it anywhere you like.

A proceeds share. One accepted entry equals one share of net proceeds. Get multiple pieces in, you get multiple shares. Look, this is indie publishing. The payout is real but it's more like proof-the-thing-existed money. And that's kind of the whole point. Every time the net proceeds pool hits $100, everyone gets their share.

A community. Writers, artists, comics people, game designers, photographers, poets. All kinds of weird. All kinds of real. People who stopped waiting for a bigger stage and just built one. That's who you're walking in with.
